January 20, 2010
Objectives:
- To promote public education
- To engage the greater community in our celebrations
- To provide a learning opportunity for our students.
There is no limit on how you and your school can participate but the celebration would not be complete without a contribution from every school and program in the CBE. Participation is easy. Simply acknowledge or incorporate the anniversary in all events and activities you have already planned for the year. If you wish to do more, a few suggestions follow.
- Encourage students to participate in the student essay contest “What will education look like in the year 2035?” (all grades)
- Have students develop artwork on the anniversary theme (all grades)
- Develop and produce fine and performing arts pieces with an anniversary theme or connection (all grades)
- Submit content to the anniversary website (all grades)
- Include a 1, 2, and 5 km run, walk and roll (wheelchairs) during your Spring athletic events (all grades)
- Participate in a “Day in the Life” of the CBE on March 2. Distribute cameras (still or video or both) to students and staff to take candid shots of what is happening at your school on March 2. Pick the top ten shots and send to Communications Services for the anniversary website. Post what you’d like on your own website. Ideally, we would like all schools/programs to participate in this in addition to at least one other activity.
- Research and write a history of your school or a memorable student who attended your school.
- Have students contribute to the book of poetry book that is being developed through Corporate Partnerships (high school only).
- Hold a homecoming event and invite school alumni, students and staff
- Update your school website to profile your anniversary activities.
- Produce and hang anniversary banners at your school.
- Produce anniversary trinkets for your students, teachers and staff
In addition, we are still accepting nominees for our 125th anniversary black and white photo book.
Thank you. |
