CBE Governance Earns National Recognition
The
Calgary Board of Education is the first public school district to receive
the Conference Board of Canada’s National Award for excellence in
governance.
The 2007 Spencer Stuart National Award in Governance for a Public Sector
Organization was awarded February 7, 2007 in Toronto, Ontario. This
prestigious award recognizes the CBE
Board of Trustees for having demonstrated a commitment to excellence
in governance by successfully implementing governance innovations.
The proof of success for the judges was the superior performance of the
school board system and the contribution of the governance model to the
long-term success of public education in Calgary.
For Calgarians, this achievement means their public education system
is in good hands and their interests are being well served by their elected
trustees.
Student learning is at the centre of the Board’s policy-governance
model. Through their focus on the Ends
Statements, the Board has clearly and powerfully set out its expectations
for the CBE. The Board’s focus on the Ends and the continuous
monitoring of progress towards them are yielding outstanding results in student learning outcomes. And that is the real test of the Calgary Board of Education as a world-class school district.
