JUNO BEACH ACADEMY HONOURS CANADIAN
VETERANS AND THEIR SACRIFICES
CALGARY – On November 10, 2010 at 11:00 am, students from Juno Beach Academy of Canadian Studies will join veterans, dignitaries, and Government of Alberta, City of Calgary and military representatives to honour Canadians who died in war and conflict throughout Canada’s history.
“The Field of Honour” is located in the centre of Queen’s Park Cemetery. It is here that many of Calgary’s war dead are buried and here where their sacrifice will be honoured. To the sound of bagpipes, representatives of many civil and veterans’ organizations will lay wreaths, salute those who died, and honour those veterans gathered with our school’s representation of Canadian youth.
Juno Beach Academy of Canadian Studies is a school that has a strong focus on Canadian Studies. Remembrance Day is more than a day off; it is a significant day which is not forgotten at the school throughout the rest of the year.
Juno Beach students will arrive at the “Field of Honour” prior to the ceremony to prepare for the arrival of the veterans and dignitaries. Students will place small Canadian flags at each gravesite to recognize those Canadians who fought throughout our country’s history to provide us with the freedoms we have today.
This important service allows students to reflect on how the sacrifices of others have shaped the nation in which they live and provided them with all the opportunities that freedom and peace bring. It is about remembrance. It is about gratitude.
