New CBE Education Centre meets with resident approval
At an open house on Wednesday August 29, 2007 the Calgary Board of Education
received excellent local resident support for the relocation of the Education
Centre to the Dr. Carl Safran site. The local residents were pleased that
the CBE will only build on the footprint where the gymnasium and parking
lot now exist, therefore, keeping the open greenspace and historical sandstone
school. The final concept is for a ten-story office tower to exist on
the corner of 8th Street and 12th Avenue.
The tower will include a greatly needed 360-stall underground parking
area.
Plans are to appear before the city planning commission on November
15, 2007. The project is expected to be complete in Fall 2010. There will
be opportunities for CBE employees to see the plans and provide input.
