student ambassadors welcome WorldSkills technical delegates to Calgary
Calgary Board of Education student ambassadors welcomed dignitaries from around the world at a special event held at the Westin Hotel on March 4, 2009. This was a meeting with WorldSkills Technical Delegates who represent the countries that will be competing in WorldSkills Calgary 2009 this September. The purpose of this meeting was to introduce the One School, One Country program to the Technical Delegates and to encourage communication between the competitors and schools prior to the competitions in September.
Each host school sent one to three student ambassadors to the Technical Delegates’ event. Students were accompanied by their proud parents, teachers and/or administrators. Our student ambassadors welcomed each of the Delegates with special greetings from their schools, exchanged gifts, then had some time to visit and ask questions.
Teachers commented on the richness and authenticity of the conversations that will have a lasting impact on their students. Many of the schools exchanged e-mail addresses with their Delegates and look forward to continuing their communications to enhance their One School, One Country experiences.
Calgary Board of Education Schools will host thirty-one countries when WorldSkills competitions begin September 1st. Teams of competitors from participating countries will be welcomed to Calgary at special assemblies at each host school. In addition to the visits, all CBE schools will be integrating WorldSkills information throughout the curriculum. Activities may include learning about the competitors and their countries, learning about the myriad of rewarding careers in the skilled professions, WorldSkills Sports Day and other special events. It is sure to generate a vast array of unique learning experiences for students.
