CBE helps kick off annual Mayor's Food Drive
A not so serious battle of shopping carts occurred with Mayor Naheed Nenshi and many of the Inter-Faith Food Bank’s sponsors on November 26 at the Southcentre Safeway to kick off the Mayor’s 22nd Annual Christmas Food Drive, which began on December 1. The goal is to get everyone excited about committing to the great need in our city for food to support the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank. Trustees Pamela King and Sheila Taylor demonstrated their musical talents as well as their competitive shopping skills at this event.
The 22nd Annual Mayor’s Food Drive runs from December 1 – 24, 2010 on behalf of the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank. The Calgary Board of Education is the largest donor to this initiative. Last year everyone at the CBE, including students at 116 CBE schools, contributed 69,159 lbs. in food donations and $8,563.78 in cash donations for a total of $146,881.78. This commitment of students and staff supported the Food Bank to help feed nearly 140,442 people last year, 41 per cent of whom were children.
