Partnership with ConocoPhillips opens doors for teaching and learning

The end of May marks the conclusion of the pilot year of a relationship between ConocoPhillips and the Calgary Board of Education focusing on three different technologies.  The goal of these technologies is to enhance the abilities of students and teachers to create and participate in new and creative learning opportunities.

Through the use of Dragon Naturally Speaking, students are able to share their knowledge in written form by speaking to the computer.  Read and Write Gold assists students in their daily work by converting written documents into speech form, reading to the students.  It also supports their writing by tracking what has been written and suggesting appropriate words when students need ideas.  The green screen provides students with the opportunity to use their creative side, combining video and computer technology to put themselves in different environments or even make it look like they’re flying.

On May 26, 4 of the 6 participating schools participated in a student centered celebration at Ernest Morrow School.  At this event, the success of this partnership was clearly highlighted as students and staff shared their stories and their work with pride.  Thank you to ConocoPhillips for their contribution to teaching and learning within the Calgary Board of Education.
