The Student Health Partnership (SHP) is all about collaboration. It's about students, parents, teachers and health-care professionals working together to help young people make the most of learning opportunities.
The Ministries of Health and Wellness, Children's Services and Learning
fund SHP support services within each Region. For more information about this government initiative, follow the link below: http://www.education.gov.ab.ca/shi/
What does this mean for CBE?
The Calgary Board of Education already offers a range of support services for students who need special attention. Student Health Partnership services enhance access to a range of health supports for our students. Student Health Partnership services address needs not being met by other organizations, and strengthens existing services in high-need areas.
What supports are available?
Schools have access to Student Health Partnership:
In addition SHP program COPE provides additional
levels of support in each Area of the CBE.
What is the eligibility for SHP?
SHP is intended to provide support for students who are not eligible
for other supports. Eligible students must require health and related
support services to participate fully in his or her education program
to attain his or her potential and be successful at learning: as identified
in a service plan or IPP. Services are short-term; therefore school-based
concerns must be able to be addressed within a relatively short time frame.
How do I access SHP Services?
Your child's school is the gateway to all services and the first step in the referral process. Through SHP, individual
schools are able to access Occupational Therapy (as above). Your school team will help you determine whether
our resources are the best fit for your child's needs, and assist you
with the referral process. Any information you provide is confidential,
and will be shared, with your permission, on a need-to-know basis. Note,
too, that SHP services are free of charge and participation is voluntary.
