TLC in Elementary Schools (Kindergarten - Grade 6)
Program details
• Character is embedded in every subject as appropriate and is reinforced daily.
• Respect for self, others and the environment are cornerstones of the program philosophy.
• TLC students are in straight grade classes throughout K-6.
• Students are taught through whole group, teacher-directed instruction.
• Students are grouped by skill ability for language arts and mathematics when appropriate.
• Students begin learning French in Grade 1.
• Students are provided with General Music from K to 6.
• Students gain recognition and understanding of our multicultural and diverse communities.
• Monthly awards assemblies are held to recognize TLC students of the month, based primarily on character.
• Students begin each day with the singing of O Canada (French and English).
Expectations of TLC Elementary Students
• At least average abilities and grade level achievement.
• Age appropriate self-management and organizational skills.
• The ability to focus on tasks for an extended period of time.
• The ability to listen to and follow oral directions without delay.
• Self-motivation and a willingness to be challenged academically.
• A willingness to do nightly homework.
• Ability and willingness to respect self, others and the learning environment.
• A desire to work and play with others and display good character.
• An ability and willingness to take ever-increasing responsibility and ownership for their own learning (independent work within a structured setting).
• A willingness to wear a school uniform.
Expectations of TLC Parents
• There is consistent open communication between home and school.
• Parents, students and teachers have clear and shared expectations around assessment of various kinds.
• Parents of TLC students sign a commitment to the program expectations document, which includes the wearing of uniforms by students.
• Parents are willing to monitor homework.
• Parents sign their child’s agenda daily.
