The Advanced Placement (AP) Program® fosters excellence in student achievement. Students who take AP® are challenged to think for themselves and to engage the world critically and analytically in and outside of the classroom. The AP® Program prepares students for future success. Students can earn advanced credit or advanced standing at thousands of colleges and universities on the basis of their AP® achievements.

The Calgary Board of Education offers the AP® program in ten high schools:

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB)

Open House Information - November/December 2009

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme is a rigorous pre-university course of studies which meets the needs of highly motivated high school students. General objectives of the IB programme are to provide students with a balanced education, to facilitate geographic and cultural mobility and to promote international understanding through a shared academic experience.  Both the IB Certificate and the IB Diploma programmes are offered.

The IB programme provides students an opportunity to:

  • utilize Grades 11 and 12 for intensive university preparation
  • undertake rigorous pre-university courses
  • receive a year’s worth of academic credit upon entry to the University of Calgary (for IB Diploma students)
  • promote international understanding through shared academic experience.

Many IB courses and exams are available.  The CBE also offers French Immersion IB.
