The Medicine Wheel Program is an initiative created by Métis Calgary Family Services Society (MCFS), a non-profit, charitable organization, in cooperation with the Calgary Board of Education. Modelled on the Medicine Wheel, the program seeks to support and encourage child and family development in a balanced manner covering the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of life and development. The Medicine Wheel program has an Aboriginal focus and is aligned with Alberta Education's Kindergarten Program Statement. The program is culturally broad and rich. It includes Michif and Cree language, Métis heritage, cultural jigging and fiddle music, Aboriginal story telling, traditional drumming and the on-going involvement of parents and elders. The Medicine Wheel programs are full-day kindergarten programs. A preschool program is also available. Transportation is provided by MCFS. Please contact the schools at the phone numbers shown above.
