GORDON DIRKS,
TRUSTEE, WARDS 1 AND 2
Gordon Dirks was first elected as a trustee to the Calgary Board of Education for Wards 1 and 2 in the 1999 by-election. Wards 1 and 2 are located in northwest Calgary.
During his career, Gordon has been a public school teacher, principal, university instructor and college administrator, MLA and Minister Responsible for the Social Services, Urban Affairs and Housing portfolios in Saskatchewan and Assistant Deputy Minister, Alberta Family and Social Services.
Gordon holds a Bachelor of Education degree with distinction from the University of Saskatchewan and Post-Graduate Diploma and a Master's Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Regina. He has also taken doctoral studies at Canadian Theological Seminary.
In his spare time, Gordon has served as the chair of a school council, various local church boards, community basketball coach for teens and has also been a member of a community organization that helps troubled teens. He leads seminars on strategic planning, board governance, leadership and change management. As soon as the weather is good, Gordon takes to the open road on his motorcycle! Gordon is married to Joy and they have two grown children.
