Joy Bowen-Eyre
Trustee, Wards 1 & 2

Joy Bowen-Eyre, Trustee for Wards 1 & 2, was elected in 2010. Wards 1 & 2 are located in Calgary’s northwest.

Joy is a strong advocate for children, youth and families.  She believes in public education and is proud to represent and serve Calgarians.  Joy encourages diversity and believes strongly in inclusion.  She believes that we should focus on children’s strengths and support their challenges so that they can develop and reach for their dreams.  Joy values the importance of good communication and the need for public engagement.

In her first year as a Trustee, Joy was the Chair of the Board Evaluation Committee, Chair of the Governance Committee and was the Trustee Liaison for the Alberta Teachers Association.  This year Joy continues her role as Liaison for the Alberta Teachers Association as well as being a member of the Audit Committee.

Joy worked for 18 years in various capacities for a large non-profit social services agency prior to serving as a Trustee.  She is passionate about education and children and youth identified as being at-risk.  Joy has been an active volunteer in her children’s’ schools for 10 years, volunteering in the classroom, on field trips, special lunch days or at events.  She believes it is important to give back to the community so volunteers as a division coordinator at Crowfoot hockey Association where her boys play hockey. 

Joy moved to Calgary from England in 1980. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Calgary and is currently a graduate student in Interdisciplinary Studies at Athabasca University, with a specialization in Education, with an anticipated completion of June 2012.  Joy lives in the community of Arbour Lake with her husband and three children, where she has been a resident for 16 years.
