Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP)

​The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act is intended to strike a balance between the public's right to know and the individual's right to privacy, as these rights relate to information held by the Calgary Board of Education. The Act ensures individuals have the right to access their own personal information. It also provides for access to other records held by the School District, and includes strict standards that the School District must follow for the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information.

Publicly Available Information

Section 89(1) of the Freedom of Information (FOIP) Act requires that public bodies make available for inspection by the public any manual, handbook or other guideline used in decision-making processes that affect the public. This information is available here.​

Computers are available for the public to use for this purpose in the reception area of the Education Centre, 1221 – 8 St. SW between the hours of 8:30 – 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. 

Section 87.1(1) of the Act requires the publication of a directory of personal information banks; collections of personal information that is organized by identifying names, numbers, symbols or other particulars assigned to an individual.  This directory is available in the link below.
