|
Naomi Johnson has been a teacher with the Calgary Board of Education for nearly thirty years. She has served as Acting Deputy Chief Superintendent since January 2009. Prior to this, she served as an Area Director from 2002 – 2009. Teaching and administrative experience in every quadrant of Calgary led Naomi to her first director position with Special Education from 1999 to 2002.
One of five children, Naomi’s mother was a teacher and her father was a farmer who served as Chair of the local board of trustees. Naomi’s academic credentials include a Masters of Arts Degree in Educational Policy and Administration from the University of Calgary, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of Winnipeg, and a degree in Education from the University of Manitoba. Following her university experience she has undertaken training in leadership, strategic planning, coaching, and systems development.
Her three grown children are all graduates of the Calgary Board of Education. Her grandson attends Tuscany school in kindergarten. In her spare time, Naomi is a runner, a reader, a cook, a gardener, a rider of horses and a lover of Weimaraners (a sporting breed of dog). She considers herself extremely privileged to have been employed by the Calgary Board of Education, one of the greatest school systems in the world, for these many years.
Naomi is a graduate of public education and is passionately committed to the people whose moral imperative it is to raise the bar and close the gap for the achievement of all children.
