Going Out? Lights Out!
CBE Energy Conservation Campaign starts now!

What can CBE staff do to help?

• Turn off the lights when leaving your office/classroom.
• Turn off the lights in common areas and hallways.  Don’t assume it is somebody else’s responsibility; it is the responsibility of all CBE staff.  Coordinate with the Principal, Caretaker, and other staff to ensure lights in common areas are shut off.
• When in doubt, turn it out!  Not sure whether lights should be on?  In most cases, you can safely turn off the lights.

CBE Lighting Facts

• $4,500,000:    Approximate annual cost of electricity just for lights.
• 13 Million sq.ft.:   Approximate area of all CBE buildings.
• 37,000,000 kg CO2: Approximate annual CO2 emissions to power lights.
• 105,000 kg SO2:   Approximate annual SO2 emissions to power lights.
SO2 combines with water molecules, contributing to the formation of acid rain.
• 80,000 kg NOx:   Approximate annual NOx emissions to power lights.
Nitrous oxides combine with other atmospheric elements and contribute to the formation of acid rain, smog, and global warming.
