Alberta Water Quality Awareness Day
Water Quality Awareness (AWQA) Day provides free test kits for participants to get outside and learn about the water quality of any lake, stream, wetland or other surface waterbody of interest.
Alberta Beverage Container Recycling Corporation > School programs
ABCRC operates Alberta 's collection system for recyclable beverage containers.
They provide a fundraising program based on the collection of recyclable beverage containers in the school (100% of deposit refund) as well as a Teacher's Resource Guide called "Recycling Makes Sense" (Grade 4).
Alberta Dairy Council Milk Container Recycling Program > Communication and Education
ADC is the trade association for Alberta 's dairy processors. Their Teacher's Resource Kit for Grade 4 science covering the recycling of milk containers.
ATCO EnergySense: Energy Education Program
The Energy Education Program is designed to teach Grade 4 students and Albertans about Alberta’s energy resources and how to use them wisely!
Calgary Zoo > Educational Programs
The Zoo provides a variety of learning opportunities, mostly on-site, to grades 1 - 9.
Canadian Centre for Energy: Education
With the Centre for Energy's learning resources and publications, Canadian educators are plugged into the most current energy information.
Canadian Museum of Nature > Teacher Zone
The Canadian Museum of Nature is a natural history museum located in Ottawa that creates and develops exhibitions for public viewing. The museum is also a vibrant, multi-layered, multi-faceted organization composed of research scientists, collection specialists, education and multimedia specialists, and innovators.
The lessons cover subjects ranging from the basics to hot topics. Videoconferencing services are available to link classrooms to the museum.
Canadian Wildlife Federation
CWF is Canada 's largest non-profit, non-governmental conservation organization. They are developing an ever-growing family of WILD Education programs in partnership with federal, provincial, and territorial wildlife agencies.
CWF offers information relating to two week-long environmental awareness events:
- National Wildlife Week (April) - several teacher's resources for Learning About Wildlife
- Rivers to Ocean Week (June) - Teacher's Guide: Oceans - Only a River Away: Discover Canada 's Watersheds (all grades)
City of Calgary Waste & Recycling Services
Starting in September 2009 the city of Calgary Waste & Recycling Services will be offering tours of the Materials Recovery Centre (MRF). The MRF is where everything Calgarians put into their blue recycling carts goes to be sorted.

Clean up the World
Clean Up the World partners with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to inspire and empower communities to "clean up, fix up and conserve their environment" by carrying out initiatives ranging from waste removal and tree planting to water and energy conservation projects.
Community Garden Resource Network
The Community Garden Resource Network operates under the Calgary Horticultural Society and is funded by the society, along with Evergreen and the Calgary Foundation. It is a three year project that was started up in order to help community members start and maintain community gardens.
A Network member will meet with the group of potential gardeners and discuss which steps should be taken considering their individual situation. They are also able to provide the community with resources and promote the benefits of gardening, as well as showcasing community gardening opportunities.
David Suzuki Foundation - Nature Challenge for Kids (NC4K)
Since 1990, the David Suzuki Foundation has worked to find ways for society to live in balance with the natural world that sustains us. Focusing on four program areas - oceans and sustainable fishing, climate change and clean energy, sustainability, and the Nature Challenge - the Foundation uses science and education to promote solutions that conserve nature and help achieve sustainability within a generation.
NC4K includes a reading list, environmental glossary, classroom ideas and curriculum, and a list of earth songs and performers.
Ducks Unlimited Canada > Resources for You
Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is committed to wetland conservation. To ensure that these precious habitats are conserved into the future, DUC works to educate young people-tomorrow's conservation leaders-about wetlands, conservation and what they can do to help.
This is done through Project Webfoot, DUC's wetland education program. Project Webfoot offers many different wetland and environmental education choices and resources ranging from hands-on and interactive programs to Web-based initiatives like "Healthy Wetlands, Healthy You" through ePALs. Aimed at Grades 4 - 12.
EarthCare > Program
EarthCARE An Environmental Education PartnershipT is an action-oriented, curriculum-aligned program focusing on energy conservation, waste reduction, and water conservation.
EarthCARE is a program that not only promotes more effective conservation behaviours but also provides a mechanism and process for turning awareness into action. They provide energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste reduction lesson plans and activities.
EcoKids
EcoKids is a multi-award winning program that provides Canadian youth with environmental knowledge and hands-on activities. The program encourages active learning and engages students in specific environmental initiatives. The program is executed in the classroom and beyond into the community. EcoKids also provides resources for teachers including lesson plans, printables, ESL materials, etc.
EcoMentors
EcoMentors are...environmental youth leaders between the ages of 15 and 24 years old that want to raise awareness and promote positive change in support of a healthier environment. They engage friends, peers and family, and take a leadership role in environmental education. Sign up today!
Evergreen Theatre
Evergreen Theatre is a touring, educational theatre company dedicated to science theatre of the natural world.
They offer one-hour shows and residencies, and the website offers resources supporting the shows. The spring 2007 shows featured wetlands and climate change.
E-zone is a website created by the Ministry of Environment to give elementary students and teachers access to dynamic, practical, and inspiring information on environmental issues. Encouraging children to learn, share and act, E-zone teaches them about climate change, smog, recycling, conservation and other environmental topics. Green Learning
GreenLearning is an innovative education program of the Pembina Foundation for teachers interested in trends affecting students' future well-being. Hinterland Who's Who > For Educators
Together, the Canadian Wildlife Service and the Canadian Wildlife Federation have brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Hinterland Who's Who and to the Canadian public. The Who's Who serves to ensure that wildlife remains part of what it means to be Canadian. Who's Who provides a broad range of lesson plans for all grade levels.
The Institute for Earth Education
Founded in 1974, The Institute for Earth Education creates curriculum based educational programs that focus on helping people to live harmoniously and joyously with the natural world. IEE programs, vehicles, and activities aim to increase understanding of ecological processes, while developing feelings for the natural world, resulting in changes in lifestyle behaviour that reduces our ecological footprint. Resources include a variety of curriculum based environmental literacy activities, programs, and teacher resources. The Insitute for Earth Education focuses on creating natural world based learning experiences that are springboards for classroom support material.
Learning for a Sustainable Future > Teachers
Founded in 1991 by a diverse group of youth, educators, business leaders, government and community members, Learning for a Sustainable Future is a non-profit Canadian organization created to integrate Education for Sustainable Development into the curricula at all grade levels in Canada .
LSF provides educators with innovative resources, teaching materials and programming. One Simple Act
One Simple Act is a Government of Alberta public information and education program that supports and inspires Albertans to lead more environmentally friendly lifestyles. One Simple Act helps Albertans save energy, reduce waste and conserve water. The One Simple Act program offers:

One Simple Act School Toolkit
The One Simple Act School Toolkit provides grades one to six teachers with the tools and resources to have students personally commit to one of ten simple acts that protect the environment. This toolkit is flexible, offering a collection of tools that teachers can draw on based on students’ needs.
The Ontario Education Resource Bank also contains thousands of teacher-shared resources, including lesson plans, activities, maps, and interactive multimedia objects, including environment related activities. Re-energy.ca
Re-energy.ca is an educational website for teachers, leaders and students to explore and learn about renewable energy by building working models.
Teaching materials are included that make it easy for teachers to introduce renewable energy content into the classroom. A complete renewable energy unit plan (developed by a teacher for a grade seven renewable energy unit) is also provided.
Ready, Set, Green! is a collection of tips, techniques, and resources used by Ontario educators. Prepared by the Ministry of Education, the guide includes many innovative projects and programs that have been developed by schools and boards across the province. Resources for Rethinking
Resources for Rethinking is a project developed by Learning for A Sustainable Future. It provides teachers access to lesson plans and other teaching resources that integrate environmental, social and economic spheres through learning that is interdisciplinary and action oriented. We call this learning Education for Sustainable Development or ESD.
Each R4R resource has been reviewed by an experienced classroom teacher and matched to relevant curriculum outcomes for all provinces and territories.
Ride the Wind!
Ride the Wind!™ education resource site is a web-based wind energy project kit that explores wind energy, energy distribution and the Calgary C-train, public light rail transit system.
Seeds Foundation
SEEDS supports Canadian educators in promoting student literacy and active personal and societal responsibility for energy, sustainability and the environment. They develop educational resources that are bias balanced, easy to use, and fit with provincial and territorial curricula.
Programs include the Energy Literacy Series, GREEN Schools , and writing, bird and water challenges.

Solutions Online is the primary venue of Solutions and the core forum for discussion about how to solve the world's mounting environmental, social, and economic problems.
Waste Reduction Week in Canada (October)
The WRW website provides resources and contacts to assist your school with waste minimization and conservation initiatives.
WRW provides a Too Good to Waste school kit which includes links to other organizations.
The We Campaign
The We Campaign is a project of The Alliance for Climate Protection - a nonprofit, nonpartisan effort founded by Nobel laureate and former Vice President Al Gore. The goal of the Alliance is to build a movement that creates the political will to solve the climate crisis.
