Artists in Schools

Art education benefits student academic success and personal development. Partnering with art organizations and independent artists not only positively impacts our students and schools but leads to a more culturally vibrant community.

We are excited you are interested in sharing your talents with our students.

We have several ways you can get involved:

Artist Roster

Artists apply to be a part of the Roster and teachers use this Roster to search for artists that best suit their needs. If you are an artist or arts organization, we encourage you to join our Art Roster.

Here’s how you can apply:

Application Process

  • complete the Artist Roster Application.
  • provide proof of valid of insurance and WCB coverage. If you do not have insurance coverage, the CBE has facilitated a process with Marsh Insurance for approximately $200 a year.
  • have a current vulnerable sector Police Information Check

note | if you have a current master agreement with the CBE or you work for an arts organization that has a master agreement with the CBE, the art partner will need to complete the Artist Roster Application (With Master Agreement).

Please complete the appropriate Art Roster Application and email the completed copy plus proof of the above to our Learning Services department at

Our Fine and Performing Arts Specialist will review your application for completeness. We will use the information provided for our online  Roster.

This roster is available for viewing on our internal website for all our teachers, schools and other employees. Schools will contact the arts organizations or individual artists they would like to work with to discuss further.

Artists Working in the Classroom

Before you join us in the classroom, the teacher or principal will connect with you directly to discuss learning goals, negotiate services provided, and school/CBE policies.

Before you begin your work at CBE you must review the Wear | Business casual  dress code and our Fine and Performing Arts Administrative Regulation 3052 to understand the expectations and roles and responsibilities within CBE schools about all the CBE policies and regulations that govern the operation of the school board and employees.

You will also need to sign a confidentiality statement to ensure that any information accessed, collected, used, generated, or stored while performing the service for the Calgary Board of Education, including student information, is strictly confidential and is to be used only in the provision of services.

Submit Learning Opportunities

If you have arts-based learning opportunities, you can request to share your information with our teachers and schools. Find out how in Request to Share Information with Schools.

Fine Arts Standing Committee (FASC)

The Fine Arts Standing Committee (FASC) has been established within the CBE and meets on a regular basis to build on and expand the recommendations of the Fine Arts Task Force. This Committee will make recommendations for Art Education to CBE's leadership team to expand on all aspects of Fine Arts Education. The Fine Arts Standing Committee comprises a variety of representatives from across a spectrum of stakeholders including principals, teachers, students, CBE parents and community representatives from all Fine Arts disciplines.
