CBE celebrates decade of strong student achievement
CALGARY – Calgary Board of Education students have demonstrated strong academic performance in 2010-2011 provincial achievement tests and diploma exams for the 10th consecutive year.
“We are committed to learning as unique as every student, and that approach contributed to these exceptional academic results,” says Naomi Johnson, Chief Superintendent of Schools. These results represent only one measure of student success, as we offer a well-rounded education to our students to prepare them for lifelong learning. However, these results do provide us with a snapshot of student achievement, which we review carefully to ensure we continue to build on our successes, while treating them as a learning opportunity for our system as a whole.”
In 12 of 13 subjects, CBE students in Grades 3, 6 and 9 outperformed the province at the acceptable standard. In 11 of the same 13 subjects, CBE students outperformed the province at the standard of excellence.
Students completing diploma courses performed exceptionally well this year. In all 11 subjects tested, CBE students outperformed the province at the excellence standard. In nine of those 11 subjects tested, CBE students outperformed the province at the acceptable standard.
Additionally, CBE English language learners outperformed the province at the acceptable standard and standard of excellence in 22 of 26 measures, while CBE students with identified special education needs outperformed the province at the acceptable standard and standard of excellence in 23 of 26 measures.
