Attend Remembrance Day services at CBE schools
CALGARY—Remembrance Day is a time to recognize the sacrifices made by Canadians in armed conflicts. Many CBE schools are holding Remembrance Day events this year. Below are a few such events to which media are invited. All of the events below are taking place on Thursday, Nov. 10.
Central Memorial High School Event
There will be two identical assemblies for two different student groups. Both assemblies will include remarks from His Honour, Colonel (Ret’d), The Honourable Donald S. Ethell, OC, OMM, AOE, MSC, CD, LLD, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta and a tribute to Central Memorial graduate, Sapper Steven Marshall.
Sapper Steven Marshall will be honoured for making the ultimate sacrifice to his country in Afghanistan in October 2009. Sapper Marshall’s name will be unveiled on the school’s Memorial Wall by the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta.

Henry Wise Wood High School Event
The school will be holding an assembly that will include remarks from Alison Redford, Q.C. Premier, Government of Alberta and other tributes to Canadians who have died for their country. Some of the tributes include songs from the student choir and student bands, presentations from students, remarks from the Chair of the Board of Trustees and more. Veterans will also be attendance at this event.

Juno Beach Academy of Canadian Studies Event
Students will join veterans, dignitaries, government representatives, and military representatives to pay honour to Canadians who died in war and conflict throughout Canada’s history at “The Field of Honour,” where many of Calgary’s war dead are buried.
Wreaths will be laid to the sound of bagpipes to salute those who died. Juno Beach students will also plant Canadian flags on the graves and lay poppies at the base of the memorial to honour those who died, providing us with the opportunities that freedom and peace bring.
