Try a skill at Jack James High School
CALGARY — Ever wonder what it would be like to be a welder, carpenter, cook, electrician or cosmetologist? Drop into Jack James High School and try a skill on Thursday, Dec. 8.
As part of “Try a Skill Day”, senior students in Knowledge and Employability courses will demonstrate their trades to other students and then will pass over their torches, hammers, spatulas, pliers and crimping irons for others to try. Students will test out these trades at 1:30 p.m. and the public is invited to test out these trades in an evening session from 5–7 p.m.
Knowledge and Employability courses provide students with practical skills and the opportunity to complete practical projects, including the initial construction of a real house in partnership with Homes By Avi.
During the afternoon session students in Grades 10-12 will explore all of the trades the school offers with their “skills passport” in hand.
The open house will include a robotics demonstration at 5:30 p.m., a fashion show at 6:00 p.m., the Science department will be creating ice cream, Auto Body will be demonstrating air brushing techniques and Commercial Foods will be making cupcakes.
Media are invited to attend either session.
