Henry Wise Wood High School Graduate Receives
Honours from Sir Paul Mccartney at Beverly Hills Gala
On Tuesday, September 23, 2003, Adopt-A-Minefield® (AAM), an international program which engages individuals, community groups and businesses in the United Nations effort to resolve the global landmine crisis, will honour International Baccalaureate (IB) students from across North America at their third annual gala at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. The evening, which will be hosted by Sir Paul McCartney and emceed by Jay Leno, will feature performances by McCartney and James Taylor.
Nine students, representing more than 100 schools that have participated for the past two years in the "IB Students Vs. Landmines" campaign, will attend the gala to receive awards for their efforts. Together, the schools raised $140,000 for AAM and the Landmine Survivors Network. Among the students receiving awards that night, will be 2003 Henry Wise Wood graduate, Stephen Morgan, now a freshman at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. During his years at Henry Wise Wood High School, Stephen was part of a team of seven students involved with the landmine project. Henry Wise Wood High School IB students continue to be involved in projects such as this as part of achieving their IB diplomas. Through these types of endeavours, IB strives to help students understand the very meaningful contributions they can make to improve the world.
