CARING COMMUNITY UNITES TO HELP STUDENTS IN NEED
The holidays should be a time of joy, warmth and communion; however
for many families in our city who have no food on their tables,
celebrating is the last thing on their minds. Sadly, some of these
families have children in the CBE. In fact, a request for support
in the form of food hamper was made by the principal of Ian Bazalgette
School at a recent leadership meeting. The thought of students and
their families going hungry over the holidays evoked tremendous
response from the community.
Marion Carson School took on seven families, Branton School had
a band concert that raised a large amount of money, which was donated
in cash and Chestemere High School created food hampers as a project
for their Social Justice class to support the students this holiday
season. To the amazement of students and staff at Ian Bazalgette,
the food hampers came personalized with gifts for all family members.
In addition to the support from the schools, several community
organizations came aboard to help the school. The Kinette Club of
Calgary Adopt a Family sponsored 15 families with personalized hampers
and The Calgary Health Region made gift donations to the students
in need.
Other schools who responded to the principal’s request for
support include:
Elboya School
A.E Cross School
Arbour Lake School
Montgomery School
Robert Warren School
Banded Peaks School (Rocky View School Division)
The partnership and sense of community that has emerged in light
of this situation is both heartwarming and amazing. The CBE and
Ian Bazalgette School would like to offer their sincerest thanks
to all who stepped up to help.
"Without a sense of caring, there can be no sense of community."
