JAMES FOWLER CELEBRATES
MORE THAN A QUARTER CENTURY OF GIVING BACK WITH THE ANNUAL
HARRIS HOUSE LUNCHEON
Students at James Fowler High School are getting into the holiday spirit and giving back to the community by preparing and hosting a holiday luncheon Thursday December 4th for residents at J.E. Harris House. Harris house is a senior’s home located across the street from the school.
In addition to lunch, the school band will be providing music for their guests, including approximately 80 Harris House residents and Calgary Board of Education Chief Superintendent Dr. Brendan Croskery.
This time-honoured tradition began 26 years ago when Harris House residents asked if James Fowler students would be able to make sandwiches for their holiday event. The school was happy to help, but with a full-service commercial kitchen in their building, they decided to offer much more than sandwiches. They prepared and transported a full turkey dinner to Harris House and have continued to do so ever since.
In recent years, the event has been moved from Harris House to James Fowler. The residents are bused to the school, fed a wonderful meal, entertained, given a gift made by the students and then escorted home by the students.
Media are invited to attend the Harris House Luncheon on Thursday, December 4th at James Fowler High School beginning at 11:50 a.m. James Fowler is located at 4004 – 4 Street N.W. For more information contact: Darren Dyck, Assistant Principal, at 403-
