The 27th Annual Calgary Young Writers’ Conference

CALGARY - Excitement is building in Calgary for the more than 1100 young writers who will be attending this year’s Calgary Young Writers’ Conference.

Conference participants, more than 1100 CBE students from Grades 4 – 9, will choose from over 100 writing and illustrating workshops hosted by approximately 50 of Canada’s published authors and illustrators.

The conference is celebrating its 27th year and is one of the largest of its kind in North America. Its aim is to expose Calgary’s talented young writers to a variety of writing strategies, presented by experts in a stimulating environment, thereby enhancing the students’ passion for writing and literature while they improve and broaden their writing skills.

Conference organizers are also thrilled to announce that the keynote speaker for the 2010 conference will be the award winning Canadian author of children’s literature, Michael Kusugak, of Rankin Inlet, Nunavut. In 2008, Mr. Kusugak, was the recipient of the prestigious Vicky Metcalf Award for Children’s Literature. This annual award honours a Canadian author of children’s literature whose body of work has been judged to demonstrate the highest literary standards.

The 2010 Calgary Young Writers’ Conference will be held from 8:00AM – 2:30PM on Saturday, April 17, at Crescent Heights High School, 1019 – 1st Street NW.
