WORLD RENOWNED CHILDREN’S RIGHTS ACTIVIST
BETTY MAKONI VISITS JENNIE ELLIOTT SCHOOL
Betti Makoni is a hero in the eyes of many influential world leaders and organizations, but most importantly she is a hero in the eyes of oppressed children. Her passion for children’s rights has earned her numerous awards including CNN’s Top 10 in 2009; Dalai Lama Peacemaker 2009; Children's Rights (called the Nobel Prize for children's rights) among others and this inspiring leader is visiting Jennie Elliott School!
Betty is working diligently to build a new generation of strong, active women citizens in Zimbabwe, where girls are discriminated against, often abused, and given limited opportunities for expression and development. Through her Girl Child Network, Betty creates safe spaces for girls to grow and connect with each other. Betty uses advocacy campaigns, media projects, and works with community leaders to raise awareness and change attitudes at community and national levels.
Students and staff of Jennie Elliott School are delighted to welcome such an inspiring and internationally acclaimed activist to their school on Friday October 23rd at 10:00 a.m.
