ERNEST MANNING SERVES MEALS TO CLIENTS OF THE
CALGARY DROP-IN CENTRE
CALGARY – When you’ve got a good thing going, it’s hard to keep it quiet.
Much to the delight of staff and students of Ernest Manning High School what started out as a modest act of goodwill has now become an annual tradition.
This Wednesday, about 35 staff and students of Ernest Manning High School will prepare a festive meal for clients of the Calgary Drop-In Centre. Not only will they provide all of the food, they will transport it to the centre, prepare and serve it to the Drop-In Centre’s deserving clients. Dinner will also include a small dessert. Other volunteers will help sort donations.
This year, to celebrate its tenth dinner in nine years, Ernest Manning staff has purchased 50 new kitchen aprons which they will donate to the Drop-In Centre to replenish old ones that the centre cannot afford to buy.
Ernest Manning High School’s tradition of service with the Calgary Drop-In Centre began in 2000 when about 12 students and two staff served about 385 meals using the food available at the centre. Over the years, Ernest Manning High School has served more than 10 000 meals and logged approximately 1 000 volunteer hours, while also running an annual in-school collection drive for non-perishable food, warm clothes and anything else that will help make the season brighter.
