donors and volunteers provide backpacks and school supplies to CBE students
On Aug. 30 over 50 volunteers, including many youth volunteers from Start2Finish, filled 852 backpacks for the Backpacks for Kids Program. Organizations like Start2Finish and the TELUS Community Ambassadors team, who donated over 470 backpacks, are the reason the program is able to reach so many students.
The Backpacks for Kids Program is an annual campaign to provide backpacks filled with a variety of school supplies for children whose families might not otherwise be able to afford everything their children need for school.
In the generous Calgary spirit of helping others, over 2,700 backpacks filled with school supplies have been donated to the CBE’s Backpacks for Kids Program by caring groups such as Start2Finish, TELUS Community Ambassadors, Costco, The City of Calgary, Direct Energy, Scotia Bank, The Foresters, Mount Royal University Library, Credit Union Central, Shaw Communications, Haywood Securities Inc., Geologic Systems Ltd. and individual Calgarians.
Whatever the circumstances, the donation of backpacks makes a difference to our students and their families. We have 73 CBE schools receiving backpacks this year and each school’s principal ensures they go to the students who need them the most. With backpacks and access to basic school supplies, students come to school prepared to learn and feel part of the learning community.
