CBE teachers recognized with Prime Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence
CBE teachers made up three out of the four Alberta recipients of the 2010-2011 Prime Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence. Certificate of Excellence recipients were honoured at a ceremony in Ottawa, fittingly held on World Teachers’ Day.
Alberta Certificate of Excellence Recipient
Daniel Ryan Grassick, science, outdoor education and digital photography teacher at Rideau Park School, was recognized with the Alberta Certificate of Excellence for the way he inspired a technological revolution in his school and for the way he shows his students how to take action.
Alberta Certificate of Achievement Recipients
Rita Gainer, art specialist at Edgemont School, was recognized with an Alberta Certificate of Achievement for the work she does to create opportunities for students of the entire school to show off their artistic talents and make a difference in the community.
David Karbashewski, Physics 20 and 30 teacher at Western Canada High School, was also recognized with an Alberta Certificate of Achievement for the way he makes physics dynamic, and encourages students through fundraising challenges, robotics and physics competitions, challenges or exams.
This year, 84 Prime Minister’s Awards were presented to teachers and early childhood educators, either individually or to teams, from across Canada. The Awards include 26 national Certificates of Excellence and 58 regional Certificates of Achievement for educational excellence at all levels, from preschool to secondary school. All award recipients were recognized as exceptionally innovative leaders who help students excel and young children get the best possible start in life.
All winners received a certificate, a pin and a letter from the Prime Minister. Certificates of Excellence are each worth $5,000 and are shared equally between the winners and their schools or childcare institutions. Certificates of Achievement are each worth $1,000 and are given directly to recipients. For more information about these awards, or to nominate a teacher for next year’s awards, please click here.
The CBE congratulates all winners for this outstanding achievement.
