Forty CBE students had the opportunity to participate in a seismic imaging demonstration in Wiaparous this October. The event was held over three days and was attended by students from Henry Wise Wood High School, Centennial High School, Juno Beach Academy of Canadian Studies and students attending classes at the Career and Technology Centre. This exciting experience was made possible by generous sponsorship from the Canadian Association of Geophysical Contractors (CAGC).
The days were full, beginning with a 7:30 a.m. bus ride to the demonstration site followed by stations showcasing careers in emergency medical rescue, seismic blasting, imaging with geophones, helicopters, line cutting/tree slashing, and portable drilling. Each station allowed students to learn about how different skills were applied in the search for oil and gas and provided opportunities to inspect equipment and ask questions about required education and career paths.
The event wrapped up with live demonstrations of helicopter long line rescues, helicopter drill transportation, tree mulching and seismic blasting with charges big enough for guests for feel the shockwave travel underground.
Thank you to the CAGC for providing three outstanding days of field experience to CBE students. The event will undoubtedly be remembered by all.
