The Calgary Board of Education Board of Trustees is seeking volunteers for its Audit Committee.
The Calgary Board of Education is the largest school board in Western Canada, serving over 100,000 students. It has an operating budget of over one billion dollars. The Audit Committee reports to the Board of Trustees and is comprised of two elected trustees and several volunteer members of the public.
The primary role of the committee is to assist the Board of Trustees in ensuring the assets of CBE are safeguarded and resources are utilized effectively. The committee oversees the processes for managing and reporting on financial activities and related internal controls. Specific duties of the committee include recommending the appointment of the auditor, reviewing the audit plan, assessing the effectiveness of the auditor and reviewing the year-end financial statements and audit findings.
Volunteers serve on the Audit Committee for three years and attend approximately two meetings per year, with the next meeting expected to take place in April 2012. The role also involves reviewing financial and audit documents in advance of meetings. The ideal candidate will have a background in public accounting, business or law and demonstrate a committment to advancing public education in our city. Serving on the committee will allow you to gain valuable experience in financial oversight.
At the CBE, we are educating tomorrow's citizens today. Please be a part of the bright future of education in our city by volunteering your time and expertise.
Please forward your resume to Brenda Selanders, Acting Executive Assistant, Office of the Trustees at bselanders@cbe.ab.ca by Feb. 15, 2012.
