Sunnyside School launched its 90th Anniversary Celebration by hosting a children’s concert featuring Peter Puffin. Peter is an award winning singer / song-writer and internationally touring recording artist who specializes in music for young children. This highly interactive hour-long concert was open to the public with admission proceeds donated in support of the Alberta Wildlife Association. During the concert, Peter Puffin officially released his newest CD, Proud Like a Mountain. Now, the students and staff at Sunnyside School are “proud as a mountain” to announce that our school song “At Sunnyside School” is included on Peter Puffin’s CD and can also be found on iTunes. Both Shaw TV and CTV were on hand to document our success.

The school’s official song, “At Sunnyside School” grew out of an Artist in Residence experience with Peter Puffin in 2003. During the residency, students and staff explored (embraced) citizenship and the language arts curriculum through music. Peter listened to what the children said about Sunnyside School, incorporated their ideas, added a home grown melody and the Sunnyside School song was born. Since then, our song has been sung many times by the students and staff at the school and performed in concert by Peter Puffin all over Alberta. Now, our song is on Peter Puffin’s new Proud as a Mountain CD and creates a lasting legacy of all the reasons that Sunnyside School is such a “cool” place to be.
