The CBE believes in the educational value of international travel and that the safety of our students and staff is of highest importance.
As a system we have rigorous processes around travel. Recent global events have caused us to take time to reflect on trips outside of Canada. For now any schools planning international trips have been asked to pause trip planning activities. This means that schools are not making any immediate decisions about trips, including cashing any cheques or collecting any fees.
We believe there is a need to take some time to make thoughtful and informed decisions. We are collecting perspectives of students, parents, and teachers involved in these trips, in order for senior administration to make decisions about international travel for the remainder of the school year.
Parents and students participating in international trips have been invited to meetings where they can share their perspectives, as well as through an online survey.
Decisions will be made by senior administration in
consultation with objective sources related to international travel, through
work with other school boards, and informed by parent, student and staff
perspectives. Ultimately, the decision must be in the best interest of all the
students in our system.
Our goal is to make decisions on international travel for this school year before Winter Break.
