Mar. 07, 2017

This year at Louis Riel School, the student wellness action team (SWAT) have focused their Comprehensive School Health goals on building positive mental and social wellness.

Students decided to raise money for the “You Can Play” organization, which is dedicated to ensuring equality, respect and safety for all athletes without regard to sexual orientation.

Through service leadership initiatives students raised over $1000 and presented the organization with a cheque at a Pink Shirt Day assembly on Wednesday, Feb. 22.

Hamish Black, elite speed skater and Jon Cornish of the Calgary Stampeders presented an impactful message to the students about how they can become allies to the LGBTQ community by challenging the use of derogatory language and actions.
