The Board of Trustees Responds to Minister’s Call for Operational Review

Jun. 08, 2017

The following is a statement from Chair Joy Bowen-Eyre on behalf of the Board of Trustees issued on June 9, 2017.

The Calgary Board of Education welcomes an operational review of our system, including our transportation plans, by the Minister of Education.

The CBE is confident in our sound financial practices and budget history. We are committed to being fully transparent. We submit all required financial information to the Ministry monthly, quarterly and annually. We continue to receive clean audits that show our financial results are fully compliant with legislation, regulation and Canadian accounting standards.

The CBE has undertaken two independent reviews of our transportation department and plans. Our 2017-18 transportation plan has been guided by the findings of the initial technical review, what we heard from our families last year during our transportation engagement, and the direction provided in Bill 1.

Our 2017-18 budget has been posted and will be discussed at the June 13 public meeting of the Board of Trustees.

We hope that through this review, the Minister will gain a better understanding of the operational complexities that exist within such a large and diverse school system and the financial constraints under which we operate. We are extremely proud of the work staff do each day across the system to ensure students are at the forefront of everything we do.
