OLYMPIC EXCITEMENT
Submitted by Kathy Salmon
I ran on Jan 18th at 6pm on Macleod Trail from Erlton Station to 17th Ave. I had the honour of lighting Kyle Shewfelt's torch (Olympic Gymnast Gold medalist).
As an Olympic athlete ('88 and '92) in the sport of luge, it was fantastic to share this experience with my three teenage children who weren't born when I was an athlete. They loved it - all the "bling" thrown off of the trucks; tambourines, glowing bottles, flags etc. and they kept up the whole way running along with me. What a thrill!
We'll be heading off to the Olympics and watch Canadian Athletes "do their thing" and pursue their personal best. As a past athlete we get to do a few cool things like, participate in the practice athlete march and Opening Ceremony Dress Rehearsal, go to Canada House where the Canadian athletes hang out (when not competing) and go to Reunion House for all former International Olympians. We purchased some event tickets and are very excited about attending as a family. Go Canada Go!
