TLC in Grade 9 in High School
Program Details
• Character education is incorporated into each core subject as ethics associated with the core subject. Community/global service is included in character education.
• TLC students remain together in their core courses and homeroom (Teacher Advisor).
• Students are grouped and supported in 10 level core courses where appropriate.
• Students are encouraged to work towards Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate programming.
• French continues, students will finish either French 10 or 20 in grade 9.
• Students who have participated in band in elementary or junior high level TLC are accommodated in band.
• A fine or performing arts course is required.
• Regular student recognition assemblies occur as appropriate.
• Students gain recognition and understanding of our multicultural and diverse communities.
• Singing of O Canada (French and English) on occasions specified by the school.
• Entrance requirements are based on the Student Profile, in conjunction with the report card and teacher referral form.
Expectations of Grade 9 TLC students in High School
• Be at grade level in the four core courses to continue in Grade 9 TLC.
• An ability and willingness to take ever-increasing responsibility and ownership for their own learning (independent work within a structured setting).
• Self-motivation and a willingness to be challenged academically.
• A willingness to do regularly assigned homework and review.
• An ability and willingness to participate in positive social interactions engage in problem solving and model good character.
• A willingness to undertake a leadership role in the school, including school, community, and global service.
• A willingness to adhere to school uniform expectations.
• A willingness to accept the challenge of a rigorous academic curriculum and eagerness for knowledge and service.
Expectations of TLC Parents
• Parents, students and teachers have clear and shared expectations around assessment of various kinds.
• Parents demonstrate commitment to program guidelines and expectations.
• Parents are informed of the opportunities for academic enrichment.
