The Calgary Board of Education offers a variety of supports to students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD’s). Most often, students are supported in their designated community school. Schools may access a variety of supports based on the individual needs of the student. Some students with severe ASD are supported in a specialized program. The following programs are supported wholly by or in partnership with the Calgary Board of Education.

Programming for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder

The majority of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can be successfully integrated into the community school program with varying levels of support. The following vary in the degree of integration.

ASD Cluster Program Grades 1-6

  • For students who have been diagnosed with high functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and who require support to be successful in an inclusive elementary setting.
  • Students receive academic, social, emotional and behavioural support
  • Placement into the Elementary Cluster Program is facilitated through the Area Specialist in consultation with the designated System Specialist.

ASD Cluster Program  Grades 7-9

  • For students who have been diagnosed with high functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and who require support to be successful in an inclusive Jr. High setting.
  • All students are integrated.
  • Support may include a daily resource option and shared access to an Education Assistant.
    Placement into the Junior High Cluster Program is facilitated through the Area Specialist in consultation with the designated System Specialist.

Ready  Program Grades 5-7

  • For students who have been diagnosed with high functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and who have difficulty coping with anxiety.
  • Goal is to assist students to develop coping skills and ensure positive transitions into appropriate school programs.
  • Class size 8 - 10
  • Placement into The Ready Program is facilitated through the Area Specialist in consultation with the designated System Specialist.
