Building & Modernizing Schools

James Fowler High School

High School Grades 10-12 | Modernization

Expected Completion Date | Fall 2018

Modernization Update | Sept. 2017

With our school year well underway, I am updating you on the modernization work that is continuing at James Fowler.

The construction advanced during the summer as the construction team, Clark Builders, had the opportunity to work in an empty school. Work in the CTS area of the school included new HVAC, sprinklers, walls and flooring. A new floor was installed in the Student Centre. The abatement of asbestos was completed in the Learning Commons which also resulted in all of the walls being painted. New LED lighting was installed in the main area of the Learning Commons and the conference room had new ceilings and LED lighting installed. The team will continue with the installation of additional new LED lighting in the Learning Commons and the existing bay windows will be replaced by new patio-style windows that will provide students access to the new landscaped instructional use courtyard.

We also had our security and fire alarm system upgraded as well as our wireless system. Work on the full size elevator project was started with the completion of the elevator shaft. The installation of the elevator will be completed the following summer.

During the next few months the construction team will complete the renovation of the CTS area where the shops are located, including the installation of equipment and the construction of new washrooms. Automotives, Autobody, Fabrication, Building Trades, Networking and Communication Technology will be ready for students at the start of the second semester in January.

Work will also proceed in the Arts-Centred Learning room with the installation of a new “Lula lift” that will provide barrier-free access to the dance and music room in the lower level.

During the second half of the year, construction will begin in the areas of Robotics, Domestic Foods, Fashion, PLP, Arts-Centred Learning and Cosmetology.

Further updates will be provided as the modernization progresses. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Keith Johnson, Principal
James Fowler High School
