Opening Date | Sept. 2017
August 31, 2017
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I am very excited for the new school year to start and to meet all of our students and families. Today, I want to update you on the ongoing construction work and the impact that the July fire will have on our school.
I would like to assure parents that school will start on Sept. 5 and that our school is safe for students. The planned flood mitigation work is continuing at the school.
Thankfully, none of our regular classrooms were impacted by the fire that occurred on the roof in July. As a result of the fire, the school has damage to the gym and the music room. Unfortunately, these spaces will not be available to us when school begins. We anticipate that repairs to the music room will be completed early this fall and repairs to the gym will be completed by November.
We are currently making arrangements to offer our band program at a nearby facility. PE will be outdoors and we will explore indoor options within the community if the weather becomes colder. We will also have access to the gym at Elbow Park School, if it is needed and for use by our sports teams.
I will work with the contractor to ensure that disruption to student learning will be at a minimum once school starts. I expect that most of the construction work being done at our school will take place after school hours.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me and I look forward to seeing you in September. Please watch our school website for further updates.

After a lengthy process, the Calgary Board of Education is happy to announce that a successful contractor has been awarded the contract to begin the Flood Mitigation Project at Rideau Park School. We anticipate mobilization to begin by the end of June 2017 and that construction will commence immediately thereafter. Details of the timeline for completion of the project are being determined. All efforts will be made to minimize disruption to classes when school commences in the fall.

CBE has been in contact with the chair of the Rideau Park School Council and the president of the Rideau-Roxboro Community Association to invite representative participation on the Rideau Park School Project Committee.
The flood mitigation project will consist of two-phases. The first phase will elevate the mechanical plant above the building spaces west of the gym. The second phase may include external site remediation.
The design plans will also have to be submitted to the City of Calgary for development and building permit approval.
