Decision | At the regular meeting of the Calgary Board of Education that was held on February 9, 2016, the Board of Trustees passed the following resolution:
- THAT W.H. Cushing Workplace School be closed effective June 30, 2016.
At a parent meeting on December 10, 2014 CBE administration presented information on the following items:
- Thoughtexchange data
- The search for space downtown
- Schools near downtown with space
- Designated schools with lottery process in effect
- Next steps
Working with CBE’s Corporate Partnerships and Leasing Department, CBE Communications issued a news release on December 11, 2014. The CBE is seeking expressions of interest in a unique partnership with downtown corporations. For more information on the news release please see the media release
. Corporate Partnerships
will be accepting expressions of interest from corporate Calgary over the next 3-4 months. All submissions will be reviewed to determine suitability based on the specifications required by the CBE and Alberta Education.
Reason for Engagement
TELUS is redeveloping the north side of the 100 block of 7th Avenue SW which includes the space occupied by the W.H. Cushing School. The Calgary Board of Education (CBE) has been notified by TELUS that the lease of space which accommodates W.H. Cushing Workplace School, on the main floor of the Len Werry building, will expire on July 31, 2016. Redevelopment will be lengthy and is expected to start in the fall of 2016.
Our goal is to consult with parents throughout the process and to obtain your feedback on the accommodation project and alternatives and/or decisions.
We will keep you informed, listen to and acknowledge concerns and aspirations, and provide feedback on how public input influenced the decision(s).
