Alberta Schools Alternative Procurement (ASAP II) Project
School approved for Provincial funding January 30, 2008 as part of Alberta Schools Alternative Procurement II Public Private Partnership Project. Site is sloped and constrained with single frontage and proximity to YMCA and Library. Open house held November 7, 2009. Alberta Infrastructure proceeded with design-build delivery option, with the Calgary Board of Education to look after maintenance. Alberta Infrastructure selected Clark Builders to undertake construction. Ground breaking ceremony held May 14, 2010. Building construction complete. Deficiency corrections underway. Building turnover occurred October 26, 2012. Fittings, fixtures and equipment (FFE) commissioning has commenced. The fit-up tender closed on February 14, 2013. Contract awarded to Kamex Construction. Fit-up scheduled for completion July 31, 2013. Administrative area, learning commons and super lab will be available to staff June 2013.
The planned opening is for the 2013-2014 school year. Watch this web site for further details as we near opening day.
As per the CBE’s School Capital Plan, Robert Thirsk High School is planned to be a 10-12 school with an opening capacity of 1500. The high school will accommodate students from Citadel, Arbour Lake, Scenic Acres, Ranchlands, Hawkwood, Rocky Ridge, and Royal Oak.
Robert Thirsk High School is located in the Arbour Lake community and will be part of the area plan for Area I (Jeannie Everett, Director).
Christine Meaden, formerly of Arbour Lake School, has recently been appointed as Principal. Following the appointment of a principal, an administrative secretary is normally appointed, followed by the appointing of an assistant principal. Other staff will be identified prior to the school opening.
