About the School
Our school was built originally in 1955 and an industrial arts shop was added several years later. Four portable classrooms were added in 1993 and, in 1998 our building was completely renovated. Currently, we have 28 classrooms surrounding an open central courtyard. Colonel Macleod features an extensive library and resource centre, a networked computer lab, science room, fine arts room, two gymnasia, and a creative playground. Our school colors are yellow and black and our mascot is the cougar.

Unique Points
Colonel Macleod is a Grade 5 - 9 middle school.
A large portion of our student community is bussed from Coventry Hills. We currently have 8 full-size & 4 small Cardinal school buses coming to Colonel Macleod School. The rest of our students walk to school from the communities of Renfrew, Regal Terrace,Winston Heights. Students in Grade 7 - 9 from Vista and Mayland Heights who are not attending the Arts Centered Learning Program at Sir John Franklin also attend our school.
Colonel Macleod School has one system Division 3 Bridges class. Students in the program are active participants in our school community and the goal of the program is for students to be included in classes with their peers.
Although Colonel Macleod is a small school, we still offer a varied program for all elementary and junior high students. French as a Second Language is currently being offered in Grades 5 through 9.
Students and staff at Colonel Macleod are involved in Celebration of Learning Evenings, Trickster Theatre, Grade 5 Outdoor School, Drama and Music performances in assemblies, Grade 7 Royal Tyrell Museum Trip, French Carnival, Night of the Cougar, Terry Fox Run, numerous field trips and presenters, School teams, Intramurals and donations of their time and money to several local and global communities. This past year students began their involvement with Free the Children and Me to We work, specifically focusing on raising funds for clean water for a village in Africa.
Every student belongs to a Teacher Advisor and stays with this teacher throughout their years at CMAC. Service learning is a major component of the of the Teacher Advisor program and includes: the Student led Remembrance Day Assembly, Earth Day clean up in the neighborhood, Yellow Fish Road, volunteering at the Fanning Centre, Staff Appreciation, Inn from the Cold and the Calgary Food Bank.
The school is organized so that students have 2 core teachers, one for Math/Science and one for Humanities.
Colonel Macleod School is fortunate to have an active and supportive School Council. In addition, the Friends of Colonel Macleod Society supports the school and this year assisted in SMART boards being installed in all classrooms. The School Council meets on the first Monday of each month - with two meetings at Coventry Elementary and the third at Colonel Macleod - the venue change assists our parents in attending.
Colonel Macleod School accepts international students. Student from other countries looking to study in Canada are welcome to come to Colonel Macleod School.
