school profiles

Please note | we’re building a new interactive mapping tool to make it easier to find schools using a familiar web interface, and will no longer be using the maps on this page. Because of that, these interactive maps show the boundaries for the 2013-14 school year, and may not be accurate for the 2014-15 school year. For current information, please refer to the “find a school by address” tool to find your designated school, see the list of schools by residential district and grade, or visit the school profile of the school you’re interested in to see the walk zone map in PDF. Thanks for your understanding, and we look forward to sharing our new site with you soon.

Colonel Macleod School is located in the N.E. community of Renfrew. It serves the communities of Bridgeland, Renfrew, Regal Terrace, Winston Heights, Mayland Heights, Vista Heights and Saddle Ridge.

About the School

Our school was built originally in 1955 and an industrial arts shop was added several years later. Four portable classrooms were added in 1993 and, in 1998 our building was completely renovated. Currently, we have 28 classrooms surrounding an open central courtyard. Colonel Macleod features an extensive library and resource centre, a networked computer lab, science room, fine arts room, two gymnasia, and a creative playground. Our school colors are yellow and black and our mascot is the cougar.

About School Name

Our school is named after Colonel James Farquharson Macleod, the North West Mounted Police officer who was responsible for establishing and naming Fort Calgary.

School Mission

A community dedicated to fostering confident lifelong learners and responsible citizens.

School Motto

Cougar PRIDE Personal Responsibility, Respect, Integrity, Determination and Excellence.

Unique Points

  • Although Colonel Macleod is a small school, we still offer a varied program for all students. French as a Second Language is currently being offered in various grades when enrolment permits.
  • Students and staff at Colonel Macleod are involved in a variety of co-curricular and Character/Citizenship building activities including:
  • , Drama presentations, Night of the Cougar, Terry Fox Run, numerous field trips and presenters, school teams, intramurals and donations of their time and money to several local and global communities.
  • The school is organized so that the majority students have 2 core teachers, one for Math/Science and one for Humanities.
  • Colonel Macleod School is fortunate to have an active and supportive School Council. In addition, the Friends of Colonel Macleod Society supports the school in many ways. The School Council meets at the school on the first Monday of each month at 7:00PM.
