About the School

Rundle School was built in 1979 and is situated on 8.79 acres. The school has 11 classrooms, as well as 6 attached portables, and 2 attached relocatables. Rundle School opened officially in May 1980. It has undergone minor renovations since then, and these will continue during this school year. Rundle School currently has a staff of 32 certificated staff, with 10 additional support staff. The school utilizes every possible teaching space in order to ensure that small group instruction is possible, and that the provincial class size initiaitve expectations are maintained. The school has a large computer lab connected to the library, and the school has been upgraded to wireless status. Rundle School has a large, well stocked library with the support of many specific literacy resources, and ongoing support from both a teacher librarian and a library assistant. There is an oversized gym that is used by both the school's physical education program as well as outside community groups after hours. The school is situated on a large field and large dry pond, which has a naturalization area with two ball diamonds down below, and 2 km of walking and bicycle path around the top. Rundle School creative playgrounds were replaced during the 2004-2005 school year. When asked, Rundle students say that "Students at Rundle are the very BEST!"

About School Name

The school was named after the Reverend R.T. Rundle, who was born in Mylor, Cornwall, England, on June 11, 1811. He died in England in 1885. During part of his life (from 1840-58), he served as a Methodist missionary on the Western Prairies. He was the first Christian missionary to live in Alberta. Mount Rundle, near Banff, is also named after Reverend Rundle.
