school profiles

Please note | we’re building a new interactive mapping tool to make it easier to find schools using a familiar web interface, and will no longer be using the maps on this page. Because of that, these interactive maps show the boundaries for the 2013-14 school year, and may not be accurate for the 2014-15 school year. For current information, please refer to the “find a school by address” tool to find your designated school, see the list of schools by residential district and grade, or visit the school profile of the school you’re interested in to see the walk zone map in PDF. Thanks for your understanding, and we look forward to sharing our new site with you soon.

Altadore School is located in the Southwest community of Altadore, serving the communities of Altadore, Garrison Woods, and River Park. The designated secondary schools for Altadore School are Mount Royal Junior High and Central Memorial High School.

About the School

The school was built in 1952 and is situated on a slightly larger than 5-acre site. The school has 14 classrooms with features such as a library-learning commons, music room, gymnasium, and a staff/conference room. Our outdoor environment features an expansive creative playground, numerous playing fields and an award-winning naturalization area, "The Owl's Nest." With our proximity to Mount Royal University, we operate as a demonstration site for students in the Faculty of Learning as well as numerous other community partnerships.

About School Name

The school is named after the community in which it is located. Local historians continue to debate the origins of the name "Altadore", but suggestions include a combination of "Alta" (abbreviated form of Alberta) and "adore", or the latin "alta" (meaning 'high') and the French "d'or" (meaning 'golden').

School Mission

Our purpose is to work together with the entire school community to create the best possible learning as mandated by the Alberta Curriculum.
