Altadore School is located in the southwest community of Altadore. The designated secondary schools for Altadore School are Mount Royal and Central Memorial High School.

About the School

The school was built in 1952 and is situated on 5.0274 acres. The school has 14 classrooms with features such as a library, computer lab, music room, staff/conference room, gymnasium, and an art/science room. The entire school is networked including the library, the classrooms and the computer lab. Our outdoor environment features a creative playground, a large playing field, and an award-winning naturalization area, "The Owl's Nest."

About School Name

The origin of this name is still a mystery at this time. Local historians and archivists at the City of Calgary and the Glenbow Museum are as curious as we are to where the name "Altadore" originated.

Our purpose is to work together with the entire school community to create the best possible learning as mandated by the Alberta Curriculum.

    • Provides a quality program that focuses on high achievement in which students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning.
    • Has a very active, committed and supportive school council which works together with school staff to provide the best learning opportunities for the children.
    • Offers additional programs to the regular program such as: leadership core, handbells, robotics, safety patrols, intramurals, sign language, and various other extra-curricular activities.
    • Provides opportunities for students to demonstrate their successful daily classroom activities and work through assemblies, celebrations of learning, student-led conferences, and performances outside the school.
    • Is committed to learning and protecting the environment. We have a naturalization area in front of the school that is used to enhance and enrich the curriculum.
    • Is committed as an entire community to working together to integrate technology with the goal of enhancing learning and teaching in all areas of the curriculum.
    • Works together with a SKILL Program for children with special needs.
