Ramsay School is located in the southeast community of Ramsay, serving the communities of Ramsay and Victoria Park. Students move from Ramsay to Rideau Park School for Grades 7 to 9 and Western Canada High School. Victoria Park students will go to Mount Royal School for Grades 7 to 9 and Western Canada High School.

About the School

The school was built in 1912 and is situated on 7.6914 acres. Ramsay School is a lovely old sandstone school. It has beautiful oak woodwork, slate staircases, brass railings, and big windows. It is located in inner city Calgary in one of the oldest communities in the city. The neighbourhood is full of older homes with front porches and picket fences, a few new infill homes, and some stately older homes such as those on Scotsman's Hill. The school has 13 classrooms. There is a beautiful, well-stocked library, and a computer network which links our computer lab, upstairs classrooms and library. The school is a model for inclusion. We also have a class for students with autism and anxiety issues called the Ready Class. We have a strong literacy program and also have a vibrant and active fine arts program. We celebrated our 90th anniversary during the 2003 - 2004 school year.

About School Name

Ramsay community and school are named after Mr. W.T. Ramsay, who surveyed and began development of Ramsay community in the early 1900's. Mr. Ramsay was born in Glasgow, Scotland and came to Canada in 1865. Mr. Ramsay and his wife had five children: Margaret, Constance, Alexander, Elizabeth, and William. Streets in the Ramsay community around the school are named after their children.

School Philosophy

We are committed to:

  • Fostering in students a respect for themselves, others, and our school.
  • Supporting and encouraging students by developing lifelong learning programs and skills that promote learners as problem solvers.
  • Developing stimulating and enriching programs which encourage risk taking, promote success, and support the development of a positive self-concept.

  • School Motto

We have two mottos for our school. The first is , " We are the little school with the big heart." The second is , " Make It Happen."

    Unique Points
