Langevin School is located in the close in northeast community of Bridgeland/Riverside. We are a unique K-grade nine school that is primarily made up of students who come from throughout the city to attend the Science Alternative Program. We also house a system special education class (ACCESS). These are all programs of choice within the Calgary Board of Education. The Science Alternative Program is the largest program with space for 550 students in Kindergarten through grade 9. This program is designed to meet the needs of students who have a keen interest in science and inquiry based learning. We also have a CBE Special Education Class (ACCESS III) which has 10 students in it who have specialized learning needs. Students from all programs continue at their designated high schools for Grades 10-12.

About the School

The original Langevin school was build in 1905 and after a devastating fire in 1966 the new school was opened in 1968. The school has 26 classrooms, a large gymnasium, a library and computer lab. Our playground is across the pedestrian bridge and it has play spaces for both younger and older students.

About School Name

Langevin School was named after Sir Hector Langevin who was one of the Fathers of Confederation. He visited Calgary in 1885 and, at the request of the town council, petitioned the Northwest Territories government for funds to build a bridge over the Bow River at 4th Street East (Edmonton Trail).
