Louis Riel School is located in the southwest community of Oakridge and serves the communities of Oakdridge (K – 9) and Cedarbrae (Grades 7-9). Louis Riel is also the host school for the Science Alternative Program for students in Area 5. The majority of students move on to Henry Wise Wood High School.

About School Name
Louis Riel (Oct. 1844 - Nov. 1885) was a renowned Metis leader, raised at the Red River Settlement. He was educated at St. Boniface and studied for the priesthood in Montreal. He was a significant and historical figure in Canadian history.
He continues to be a controversial character and a significant historical figure in Canadian history. He lived in the late 1800’s and was a renowned Metis leader, and a man so charismatic, was elected twice to government. Louis Riel took on the army, the government, the Queen of England, and even the Church in the name of his passionate vision of freedom for the people of the prairies.*
