Mount Royal School is located in the southwest community of Mount Royal, serving the communities of Altadore, Bankview, Connaught, Eau Claire, Mount Royal, Scarboro,South Calgary, Sunalta, and Victoria Park. Elementary feeder schools are Alex Ferguson, Altadore, Connaught, Earl Grey, Ramsay,Richmond, and Sunalta. Most students from Mount Royal School move on to Western Canada High School or Central Memorial High School.

About the School

The original sandstone school was opened in 1910 and had students from Grades 1 to 9. The school is situated on 3.5010 acres. A new gymnasium was added in 1952 and the new building replaced the old sandstone structure in 1967. At this time, Mount Royal became a junior high with the students who formerly went to Earl Grey, Connaught, and McDougall Junior High Schools joining the grades 7 to 9 students at Mount Royal. The school has 2 computer labs, a library,gymnasium and 2 CTS labs (Home Economics and Construction). A variety of complementary courses are offered.

The school was named after one of the communities that it serves.

We ensure an environment for the development of responsible and capable learners, to nurture in each learner the desire to be critical thinkers and to participate actively, both locally and globally. Mount Royal Junior High promotes the development of responsible, capable learners in a safe, flexible, and caring environment. Students are encouraged and assisted to meet academic expectations based on provincial curriculum standards. Programs vary according to the learning needs of the student. We believe that self-esteem and pride are important components of our school climate, and therefore, we encourage positive and mutually respectful relationships among students, parents, and staff.

Through this program, we have worked to enhance technology and form partnerships within the community.
