Canyon Meadows School is located in the southwest community of Canyon Meadows.
As the south Calgary campus of the International Spanish Academy (ISA), the school accommodates families from the city of Calgary south of Glenmore Trail (Area V) and the communities of Ogden and Riverbend whose children are registered and attending the Spanish bilingual program.
Students from Canyon Meadows School, International Spanish Academy continue to Robert Warren Middle School (ISA) for grades five through nine.
Student accomodation planning has designated Dr. E.P. Scarlett as the International Spanish Academy High School.
About the School
The school was built in 1971 and is situated on 2.58 acres of fields and play space. The school has 21 classrooms, a two-station gymnasium, a music room, and a centrally-located Information Commons.
Carpet product was removed from the campus during the summer of 2010 and sparkling tile floors grace all interior surfaces. The school has a freshly paved play surface complete with games and playground structure was erected in 2001. The school will be freshly painted in the fall of 2010.
Canyon Meadows School became the south location for the International Spanish Academy, Alberta Education and Calgary Board of Education's Spanish bilingual program in 2001.
From 2002-2006, a naturalization project called "The Learning Meadows" was completed by the school community to create an all season outdoor learning environment for students. The "Learning Meadows" is a proud 2007 Emerald Award finalist.
In the summer of 2006 a renovation plan for the library area was completed to include a media centre, digital teaching center, Smart Boards, primary reading area and reorganization of the book stacks to create an "Information Commons"environment.
In the summer of 2007 a renovation restructured the school lobby and main office to more effectively serve school security and our rapidly growing school community.

Canyon Meadows School, International Spanish Academy is an alternative program or school of "choice", a Spanish bilingual program.
Students living in the Canyon Meadows community who wish to enrol in a regular English program ( K- 6) are designated to Ethel M. Johnson School.
Canyon Meadows School has six half day Kindergarten programs, three in the morning and three in the afternoon.
Canyon Meadows school offers a fee for service noon supervision program.
Canyon Meadows School is a "Teaming Up" participant, focussing on a healthy lifestyle through diet and active living choices.
The Spanish bilingual program provides opportunities for students to acquire the basic skills for speaking, reading and writing both English and Spanish at a young age. The Alberta Program of Studies curriculum is taught with instructional time divided equally between Spanish and in English. The International Spanish Academy is open to all Calgary Board of Education students living in Area V and the communities of Riverbend and Ogden. Bussing is available at the regular bussing fee to students living outside of the 1.2 km walk limit.
A common set of agreements and expectations are formulated each year to ensure an environment conducive to quality learning. Moral values and character education are programmed to help students meet these expectations.
Cultural, lifestyle and healthy living programs are offered for students that may include swimming, tennis, in-line skating, dancing, artist in residence opportunitites and choir.
Our school plan is committed to employing early literacy intervention strategies.
With support from the Alberta Initiative for School Improvement (AISI), personalized learning strategies are implemented. In the current AISI project, students will work in developing inquiry learning and digital literacy skills to develop the necesssary traits of a 21 Century learner.
Unique opportunities for all students include: daily active living with instruction from classroom teachers and a music specialist for the music curriculum and choral program.
Information Literacy opportunitities include student digital camera and SmartBoard projects. Computers are available in every classroom, and in the school Information Common.
Escuela Canyon Meadows School has an active school council which provides opportunities for consultative problem-solving and a Parent-Teacher Association that organizes fundraising and special child-centered 'spirit' activities.
The school has a large and dedicated group of parent volunteers that are invaluable to the philosophy of together is better!
